Brazilian Rosewood also know as Dalbergia Nigra. This offering is for old growth not the newer growth commonly seen today. Old Growth is far superior and much more rare and desirable. The reason old growth is more valuable is because the trees grew slowly in dense forests and limited light. Newer growth was grown to maximize girth and height which does not produce the same quality wood or lumber as old growth. The result in old growth was fine grain wood that we may never see again unless old hoards are broken out. These pieces have been in our possession for many, many years and we've decided to offer a limited amount out for sale. The heartwood colour varies from a chocolate brown to violet brown streaked with black and with streaks of golden brown. The grain is mainly straight, sometimes wavy with a coarse texture. It feels oily to the touch. The timber has a high strength and good bending capabilities, which makes this wood one of the best used for building cue sticks. This wood was purchased about 20-25 years ago and at the time it was older than that. This old wood offers all the advantages of old Brazilian Rosewood such as the pure beauty, spider webbing, curly grain, or straight and the stability of old wood.
