This DVD covers two proper techniques of installing veneer work to your points. It will also cover how to cut veneers with and without a mill in detail. We'll show two methods both of which produce accurate and clean veneer work. This is the ultimate in precision veneer technique.

If you are new to cue building, you will need to purchase Proper "V" Point Construction Techniques to fully understand how point work is done. This DVD picks up where the other one leaves off. Doing veneer work is the next level of cue construction.

Small random slabs are .125 thick. They vary in width from 1/2 inch up in to perhaps 1 inch in width and usually run 2" to 4" in length. These are random slabs and are priced as random slabs. At this price you cannot specify lengths and/or widths.

Large random slabs are .125 thick. They vary in width from 1 inch up to perhaps 3 or 4 inchs in width and usually run 4" up to 10" in length. These are random slabs and are priced as random slabs.

At the above prices, you cannot specify lengths and/or widths. We are selling this by the ounce. The larger your order, the larger the pieces we can offer you. If you order 2 ounces of random large slabs, we can't provide you with 10" lengths. There are knock-offs of this cutter out there which are imported from overseas. Ours is made in America. That's the difference in price. If you want to save then buy their cutter but if you want American quality and precision, then this is the cutter for you.

This tool is great for table top lathes such as Porper, Hightower and Unique (taper shaper and their CNC) as well as larger floor lathes and Align-Rite CNC machines. The diameter is 1.25" with a 1/4" shank; incredibly small but with the necessary power. Carbide Tipped!

This is made on a CNC machine and the blades are all in-line with one another. This is a 6 flute router bit for extreme accuracy, smooth cuts and less vibration. You'll get ultra smooth cuts on shafts and butts. The cut is so smooth that it appears as if the finished piece has been sanded and buffed! Exceptionally clean cuts. A must for the serious cue builder.

We use this 6 flute blade on our router when cutting shafts and butts with our 14" X 40" tapering lathe as well as other machines. This is a great cutter!

The 2 blocks you see are each .265" x 1.5" x 5 15/16" long and sold as a pair. The is the same as our Duck call material only cut into slabs.

Once sanded these polish to a beautiful high gloss.

This is vintage (late 1980's or early 1990's) Westinghouse bleached linen micarta which was heat pressed into sheets.  This is the real deal. 

This is ideal for Duck or Goose Calls and knife handles or scales as you see fit.  It cuts easily and polishes to a high shine.  This is a rare and high quality material that is very hard but easy to form and work with.

Micarta And Its Many Myths

What is micarta? The actual word and definition has become diluted through the decades since it's invention in and around 1911 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation.  Micarta was actually produced as an industrial laminate for electrical insulation.  Soon afterwards it was started to be used as a decorative laminate and thus Formica was born.  Both products were marketed under the trade name 'micarta'.  As such, it became used generically.  Micarta today has been used by any laminated composite material including glass epoxy otherwise known as G10.

Westinghouse produced what is called 'antique ivory', better known as a grade FR-2 laminate.  This was comprised of paper sheets which were soaked in epoxy resin and then baked and pressed into huge sheets.  The color was incidental as it was an industrial product.  Color was really never a goal of any industrial laminate.  In fact, the color from run to run varied greatly.  The purpose of the FT-2 was to be an electrical insulator with different characteristics than the much more common paper grades which were manufactured with phenolic resins.

As for the asbestos laminates we hear so much about, there were actually two grades.  We believe neither of these two grades have been produced in the USA since the mid 1960's or so.  They were indeed manufactured in Europe during the 1970's.  This material was for industrial use as an electrical insulator as well.  This material is extremely dangerous as it is asbestos based.  Fortunately, little remains today.

The Westinghouse micarta division was eventually sold to International Paper (IP) in 1995 an was run for several years.  They manufactured these micarta laminates for decorative purposes while based in South Carolina.  Eventually IP sold the facility and it was subsequently sold again.  It was eventually liquidated and sold off around 2004 or thereabouts.
